Our Story
The charity started in 1987 when Peter Mumford, then Bishop of Truro recognised the need to find a positive way to engage disadvantaged young people, to ensure they unlocked their potential. Soon after, The Bishops Forum was created and the charity was founded with Goodygrane Activity Centre growing from abandoned granite quarries overlooking Falmouth bay. Our outdoor education centre now supports ~5,000 children and young people a year through charity programmes and tailored school residentials.
Our Work and Impact
Our mission is to support children and young people on a journey of change, giving them tools to overcome challenges and build confidence. We help them overcome barriers to education, work, and social interaction through targeted programmes and school residentials that develop teamwork, communication, and resilience. Based on our outdoor sites, we offer adventurous activities that challenge, excite and teach new skills: Via Ferrata, Zip-lining, quarry-steering, watersports, climbing, archery, bushcraft and more…
Our Social Enterprise
In 2020 we launched Via Ferrata Cornwall, offering public adventures to everyone. Based on our site, all its profits support our charity work.
With a choice of Via Ferrata, Zip Wire Safari, Tunnel Challenge, Watersports and more, it’s the place to be for family days out, birthdays, corporate teambuilding and stag and hen dos. They also run adventure childcare!
Finally, there’s The Cornish Barista’s Café, a wild play area and adventure nature trails.
