Freestyle programmes (fully funded)

 

The Freestyle programmes are ideal forFreestyle student doing archery  young
people aged 14 - 19 who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or are at risk of NEET.

The courses cater for different levels and support needs; please see below for a detailed description.

Targeted Youth Support

This programme is for young people, aged  14 - 19, who are NEET or at risk of disengaging. The course focuses on those most vulnerable and hardest to reach, but participants need to be able to work in a group setting and should be motivated to further
develop their skills.

Course content:

  • Personal challenges, confidence building, group work skills and developing motivation for future progression
  • Individual support available
  • Activities will include Climbing, Abseiling, Canoeing, Archery, Survival Skills; but the detailed programme content will be designed by the learners 
  • AQA unit award scheme certificates can also be achieved through this

Enterprise & Entrepreneurship

This programme is for young people, aged 14 - 19, who are NEET or at risk of disengaging. The course is ideal for those who have an interest in business, social enterprise or community work. People attending the course should be able to work in a group setting and be motivated to build their confidence and develop their skills

Course content:

  • Combined programme aimed at personal and team development, with a focus on what young people have to offer their communities
  • Young people will build a programme of activities designed to develop life skills, team work, confidence, leadership and decision making skills, as well as business and social enterprise skillsThe group will work together to identify opportunities, allocate resources and manage a small budget to complete a community or business project of their choiceLearners will receive information, advice and guidance throughout the course, enabling them to identify their skills and talents, as well as areas they want to improve in
  • AQA unit award scheme certificates can be achieved through this programme, as well as National Open College Network Units

Foundation Learning

This programme is for young people, aged 16 - 19, who are NEET (not in education. employment or training). The course is ideal for those who are able to work in a group setting and would like to achieve an E3/L1 qualification.

Course content:

  • Focused on activities in the outdoor environment, currently following the National Open College Network Certificate in Progression
  • Units covered will include an induction, teamwork and communication skills, cooking, gardening and making choices in the pursuit of goals
  • Group will take responsibility for planning the direction of the course and the activities completed.  Previous examples include creation of a garden and forest school areas to offsite expeditions
  • Learners will receive information, advice and guidance throughout the course with a focus on identifying skills and areas for improvement to enable positive progression

Young people will contribute to the design of their programmes and be expected to show progression through accredited and non accredited outcomes.

  • Budgeting
  • Risk assessment
  • Cooking
  • Careers and positive progression options
  • Planning projects and activities.

Referral Process

Individuals or full groups (up to 8 people) can be referred to us by schools, colleges, youth workers or connexions advisors. Referrers will need to complete referral and eligibility forms. Each application is assessed by the county brokerage team.

Transport

We will support transport needs with mini bus pick-ups and payment of public transport costs where possible.
